Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore

We walked out of our hotel down to the nearby basilica, which improves on further study. The mosaics inside are wonderful. It was an active church. There were confessionals, a mass, and a private ceremony by a priest in one of the chapels. I took quite a tour of it while waiting for Ira to take care of our train details. I perused the basilica for 90 minutes. Ira stood in line for train tickets for the same time. Ira's a saint.

Later in the day we sat in a cafe and watched the sun set behind the basilica while we relaxed after our touring. The gelato was mediocre, however, the price tag attached made up for that by being ridiculous. At least the view was good? Below I've placed some random pictures of artworks from within the basilica. Enjoy!
